Seroquel (withdraws?) 3 Months ago Karma: 3
I have been on 50mg of seroquel a day for the past 1 month now. Before that I was on 25mg a day for 2 months. My psych wants me on 100mg of seroquel a day and 600mg of gabapentin (neurontin).... I'm not feeling the super increase in seroquel as the 50mg knocks me out hardcore already.... anyway, I'm wondering if it would be easy for me to quit taking seroquel (I know it's something I need to discuss with psych-- I see him this week)...

I'm sure a bunch of you have been on doses MUCH higher than the one I'm on now... has anyone developed TD or diabetes? Was it horrendous trying to come off of seroquel (comparable to xanax withdraw or paxil withdraw?)??? Just wondering...

Thanks!

I'm on 400mg. If I ...uh... *forget*... to take it I get a bit nauseous, but entirely manageable. I also have trouble sleeping, like staring at the ceiling for eight hours sort of trouble.

Hope I don't get TD or diabetes

I was on 400 mg of serequel along with my 200 of lamictal I gained 45lbs and couldn't stand it anymore as I am also only 5ft tall. I have been slowly coming off of it and it has been terrible...I get very nauseous and have night sweats waking up multiple times feeling extremely cold to the bone...I have also had horrible nightmares...along with dizziness and the all wonderful racing thoughts at night making it tough to sleep...I have also been in a *controlled* manic state...having to rely on some real cognitive behavioral therapy to keep grounded...but it hopefully be worth it for my health benefits!!!

I'm on 400 mg of seroquel and am taking 600 mg of gabapentin daily. Gabapentin I'm taking for nerve pain and have just recently started it. What's the use it has for BP? As for seroquel, I've put on about 15 pounds so far, was very lean before, starting to puff out now

voltaire,

gabapentin is thought to have mood stabilizing abilities. The manufacturer of that drug pushed doctors hard to prescribe it for off label uses. Parke-Davis has been sued for this.

As far as Seroquel withdrawals go, I was on 1600mg/day. 800mg in the morning and 800mg at night. I gained about 60 pounds. Last September I went off all my meds(back on some now). The withdrawals from the Seroquel were horrible. I couldn't sleep, my nose ran all the time, my legs shook so violently that my brother took me to the ER and his car shook from my legs. My reg doctor had to put me on primidone to control the severe tremor. I lost all the weight, but I still suffer from insomnia and many others I've read about suffer from insomnia for extremely long periods of time after stopping Seroquel. I was on it for 8 years, so that might be part of the severity.

I forgot about the diabetes and thyroid issues. I already have diabetes and have had it for over 25 years - type 1. I didn't get it from the Seroquel, but it made controlling my blood sugars almost impossible. They were almost always high. I had to take HUGE amounts of insulin and still made very little progress.

My thyroid function did suffer. My TSH(Thyroid Stimulating Hormone) was very high. TSH is higher in your system when your Thyroid is NOT producing enough of its hormone. Since quitting the Seroquel, my TSH is back to normal.
